Down The Rabbit Hole

My heart was beating out of my chest. The dark strangers were starting to surround me. I couldn’t see them, but I knew they were there. I could feel them, hear them. I raised my arms up to the sky and begged God, or anyone to help me. I screamed at the top of my lungs until I couldn’t scream anymore. My breath finally gave out as I waited for the figures to pounce, but not once did they do so. Suddenly, I noticed a light just above me. As it was shining down, the area was now illuminated. The dark figures that had me trapped were now shining with a bright light. They didn’t look menacing like they had before. I was confused. The tallest one came over and laid his hand on my shoulder. Something felt very right and comforting about this. He leaned down and whispered something that didn’t make sense.

“Wake up, Claire.”

That voice. It was familiar to me. I pulled back to look at his face. Sure enough, I knew him. It was my dad. We exchanged glances until suddenly everything went black. I felt like I was falling endlessly down a black hole. Like Alice in Wonderland, but without the rabbits and the Hatter. This was something else entirely. I struggled to break free from the fall, but I couldn’t see or hear. I was trapped. This was it…
