Why Are We so Awkward?

I think it’s painfully obvious there’s a strange awkwardness that lingers in the air between strangers. Why have we been conditioned to treat someone we don’t know with such strange behavior? Sure, most of us have found ways to be friendly and kind to someone we don’t know, but not all of us have adapted that far. It amazes me how terrible some people can treat strangers. It’s true that we should keep our guard up. You never know what a person is capable of, but that doesn’t mean everyone is going to hurt you. We’re all cautious, sure, but we don’t always have to be on the defensive. I’m glad that we live in a somewhat safe country. Bad thing still happen here, but terrible events are always going to occur. That’s just a part of life. There’s no such thing as world peace and that’s okay.

I know, you probably think I’m crazy for saying that, but hear me out. Everything in the world exists because of balance. You can’t have right without wrong, good without bad, or black without white. The balance is there for a reason and I don’t think it’s going away anytime soon. When the negative things happen, we’re supposed to experience them, learn from them and then finally do something with that experience and knowledge to make the world a better place. However, all we seem to be doing is making things worse. That’s not always true, but bad seems to be taking charge in a lot of areas around the world right now. It’s all up to us to make a difference. It doesn’t matter if it’s a small thing that you do for someone you don’t know. Perhaps it’s just a smile that you pass along to someone. Whatever it is, it’s possible to change the world, even if you’re doing it in small ways. So don’t forget to smile and remember that we do things everyday that make the world a better place. Sometimes we just have to open our eyes and see. Everyone has a place and a purpose. Everyone is important.
