TODAY I LEARNED: There is an estimated 5,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 bacteria living on Earth.
How are you doing today? My past few days, or weeks rather, have been up and down. As is life and what not but, here’s the thing. I tried really hard not to push myself too hard this week and I found that I have a problem with doing too much at once. I get in such a hurry and my mind becomes engulfed with nonsense.
This is something I already knew, but to realize just how much I do it opened my eyes to a new light. Sometimes doing too much at once is the root of our problems. We may not see it at the time, but we can be doing too much and not even realize the stress it’s bringing down on us.
When I finally got the chance to, I stepped away and tried to realign myself to deplete the stress that was causing me so much trouble. Here is what I did:
I went to my bedroom and made sure there were no distractions like… incessant little noises, cats, outside noise, etc. I sat down on the floor, crossed my legs, closed my eyes and just relaxed into my sitting position. I meditated for just a bit and then I just sat there. I did nothing but sit. I let my thoughts cycle through, and it suddenly became clear to me that I had been doing too much even though I thought it was an even amount of stress. Anxiety and stress are funny that way.
Sometimes our body handles stress differently which each day. You really have to feel yourself out and make sure what you’re able to deal with each day. So, if you feel like you’re pushing yourself too much, or maybe you don’t know what’s going on, take a moment to sit and breathe. It could be that you’re doing too much without even realizing it.
This is going to happen regardless of what we do in our lives because we live in a world that runs on stress and caffeine. But just because we are living in a stressful world doesn’t mean we can’t quieten ourselves and realign our purpose. Sometimes, that’s all you need. A lot of us have trouble with just sitting and doing nothing, but honestly, sometimes that’s exactly what you need is to sit and do absolutely nothing. Just sitting down with an open mind.
