Life & Death

If the past few days have shown me anything, it’s that life deserves more appreciation than we know. It’s a remarkable thing, to know that your days are numbered. Even if we go to all the psychics in the world, we never truly know when we will die. I have a few friends who are going through some very hard times right now. They’re battling health issues that no one should have to fight. Yet they keep on going. They take it day by day and always remember that life is a very precious thing. We go through our daily lives completely unaware of how lucky we are. To live, to breathe…it’s a miracle.

In spite of that, we do things that potentially shorten our existence. Drink, smoke, party, and whatever else that makes us feel good “right now.” That’s the point of it all. Most of the time we can’t see past the present. It’s true that we should live in the moment. We should have the courage to change our lives. But keeping the future of our lives in mind is important as well. We’re all human and there’s no way that any of us are perfect, so we’re going to mess up. We will fall back on what we believe or give in to the temptations of life. However, trying again is what’s important. As long as your heart beats you have purpose. Keep trying and keep moving.

This isn’t to say that death doesn’t have a place in our lives. It’s tragic and it breaks our hearts, but it’s a part of living as well. We have to accept it because it’s part of the natural world. Everything lives and then dies. It’s a cycle that continues forever. But with every end comes a new beginning. The negative thoughts we have towards death are understandable. But knowing that we will see our loved ones again? That’s an even better thought. Even if you don’t believe that, that’s okay. Personally, I think we will all be moved to the next cycle of life, whatever that may be. The point of all this is to say that life and death go hand in hand. Death gives life meaning. We aren’t bound by our fates. We control our own destinies. We decide how we want to live. It’s something that’s been weighing on my mind and I hope just hearing me ramble helps you too in some way. Live life another day and thank whatever entity or just the universe, that you’re alive. You deserve to live.

“To die will be an awfully big adventure.”
