It’s hard to talk to someone you just can’t get along with. Much less when your job or situation requires it. It can be daunting to consistently keep up a smiling face when all you want to do is punch them straight through the wall. I’ve had my fair share of people who I simply cannot stand. Whether it be their personality or terrible character, you just don’t like it. Luckily, this past year I’ve been blessed with a lot of great people in my life. These great people have shown me that it’s okay to not like someone. It doesn’t mean you’re a terrible person or that the other person is horrible. It simply means you don’t like someone and there are plenty of ways to work through that.
I know this is a weird topic to cover, but it’s been weighing on my mind due to past experiences with people who are no longer in my life. And as they always say, it’s better to get it out on paper than to hold it in, wishing it would go away. I handle “not liking people” by remembering that we’re all human. Each one of us has our own way of dealing with the world and we never know what someone may be going through. Sure, there exists down right awful people, but pure evil isn’t always the case.
We often let the hurt of what someone says keep us from seeing the hurt within that person. If someone says something mean to you, the last thing you want to think is, that person deserves a hug or love. It’s a crazy idea, but most of the time, people who are mean to others are simply lacking something in their lives. Because of that, they put that negativity on others because it’s a form of coping, of living their lives the way they think they should. Because they lack whatever it may be, they don’t see the things they need to see with love in their heart.
Sometimes all it takes is a little nudge. Just a few words to remind them that someone does love them or what they’re missing can be obtained again. It’s not easy to remember this, especially when you’re in the moment, but it’s important. And once again, we’re all human, so we’re not always going to do this, but it’s worth mentioning to remind the world, we all miss something. We all love something. We’re all human, and that’s an okay thing to be. People deserve to be loved and to be forgiven. We deserve to feel love.
