TODAY I LEARNED: Penguins can jump over 9 feet high!
Today I feel tired but strong. This past month, I feel like I’ve pushed through a lot of troubling obstacles. This proves that I’m capable of pushing forward even when my fear is at its peak. Do you have something you’re afraid of?
For me, fear comes in many forms No one wants to think about what scares them…but sometimes life throws curve balls and forces us to face our fears. In these moments, we can either run or stand strong and face it head on.
I know, staying strong sounds like the harder choice, and it is. But that choice can be made even when you’re afraid. I was always told growing up that even the brave are afraid. Courage isn’t the absence of fear, rather it is feeling the fear and doing it anyway. So, how do we do it? How do we face our fears?
First, I had to realize that it’s okay to be afraid. Fear is a natural response, and while it’s not great to feel, it is okay. You have to tell yourself that. Make up an affirmation if you have to…which is exactly what I did. When that fear rears its ugly head I tell myself…
It’s okay to be afraid. I am strong enough. I am meant to overcome this.
Fears are presented in our lives as challenges that will help us grow. That doesn’t make it any less scary, but it does help. When you think about it, fear is kind of like that one problem in your life you really don’t want, but it helps you to grow stronger.
It’s a daily struggle. You won’t be “cured” of the fear and it takes time to build yourself up, but time and perseverance will get you there. So, next time you’re feeling scared, whatever the situation may be, remind yourself of three things.
- It’s okay to be afraid.
- I am strong enough.
- I am meant to overcome this.
Daily affirmations don’t seem like much, but these are three simple steps that truly go a long way. Repeat them to yourself as many times as you need. They seem minimal, but they have a great impact on the process of overcoming fear. Most importantly, believe what you tell yourself.
A lot of people like to think that fear goes away as you get older, but that’s simply not true. We’re always going to get scared, but we can learn to deal with it the right way, so we can live better lives. You’re never too old to be reminded of how to overcome fear. That’s what I’m trying to do now and I hope these tips help you if you’re ever deep in fear. Hope everyone has a terrific day!
